JJW’s emphasis on low yield agriculture, old-school handcrafting, and intuitive expression of each year’s harvest delivers outstanding teas that consistently sell out 6-8 months before being produced. He has a variety of cultivars in his gardens, including a handful of Assam trees planted by the Japanese before WWII. Many of his teas are not for sale at all and are only produced for sharing with family and friends.
His gardens are littered with numerous tea houses. He only uses one at a time, carefully constructing them among the tea bushes, or in the trees themselves, and using it for some time before abandoning and building a new one.
