Kim Jong Yeol (KJY) used to be a corporate accountant in Busan until he traded the big city life for his grandmother’s farm in the remote village of Hwagae. The trees were already there when his grandmother purchased the farm in the early 1900s so the tea is made with exceptionally old leaves. The numerous fruit trees, dotting the area, fertilized the tree plant with their fallen fruit.
The steep terrain of the farm does not allow for any machinery so all leaves are handpicked. The leaves are then handcrafted in batches of 5-30 kg with attention to detail we don’t often encounter. Each harvest is unique and simply outstanding!
