From the creators or Time Traveller and Writing of the Ancients, these chunky leaves pack notes of red fruit and sub-tropical hardwood, with a lingering sweet mouthfeel.
Just like Time Traveller, this tea is made with leaves from ancient trees, often called ‘gushu’ (the Pinyin transliteration of 古樹, in simplified Chinese or 古樹 in traditional characters).
The bricks were pressed in January 2023, right before the start of the Year of the Rabbit, using a blend of leaves from 2021 and 2022.
Note: these bricks are BIG! At 1kg, they will easily supply >125 gong fu tea sessions, each one yielding well over 10 steeps. Because they are not bulky, these bricks are also easier (and cheaper) to ship, allowing us to offer them at a very reasonable price point.
Ancient tea trees in Yunnan are usually processed as Pu Er, be it raw (oftentimes using the best leaves) or cooked. In this case, Gao and Fan found used some leaves that were originally going to be processed as 'premium raw Pu Er' but accidentally oxidized faster than expected. They chose to express the leaves differently, undergoing a full process of oxidization. We couldn't be happier with the result!
