Gui Fei Oolong

We owe many of this tea's superb aromatics to leafhoppers (Jacobiasca formosana), just like the ones behind Oriental Beauty Oolongs (東方美人).  Gui Fei is, however, a more recent creation.

According to our local friends, In 1996, Typhoon Herb wreaked havoc across Taiwan; this delayed the tea harvest significantly and leafhoppers had a chance to feast on juicy summer leaves.  In September, when the disgruntled farmers were finally able to harvest the tea leaves, they were surprised by intense stone fruit aromatics.

The name Gui Fei is a reference to 杨贵妃, one of the "four famous beauties" of ancient China.
