YIXING TEAPOT | 1990's Duan Ni

Yixing teapots are some of the best devices ever created to brew tea.  Some can be unbelievably expensive (tens of thousands of dollars) and many are fakes (i.e. created with clay that is not from this region or wrongly attributed to a famous artist).

Fortunately for our team, our good friend Daniel Lui (The Chinese Tea Shop in Vancouver) is a walking encyclopaedia on this topic; he has been studying and collecting Yixing teapots over three decades.  It it thanks to him that we were able to source a few teapots that are made with authentic Yixing clay at a very reasonable price.  Handcrafted in the 1990's by non famous artisans, these teapots handle oolongs and pu er very well. 

Origin:  Yixing, Jiangsu Province, China.  

Brief History of Yixing Pots:

It is very hard to pinpoint the origin of anything in a culture as ancient as China's. Archeologists have found remains of pottery in the Yixing region dating back to the Neolithic.  When speaking specifically about tea ware, there are records of pots made in this region since the 16h century (Ming Dynasty).
